I write fanfiction about Mickey and Minnie. I don't do art, only fanfiction.
Thank you for the fave.
What are your honest thoughts on the Gift of the Magi segment from Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas?
It's my favorite segment in the whole film. It's such a unique setup, one we hardly ever see. The mice are barely scrapping by. Minnie's worried about bills and wants to get Mickey a present, which is her primary thought. She hides the bills when Mickey arrives because she knows he'd be worried or her and want to help, but she hides it. My thought is because she knows he needs his own money since he doesn't make much either, and she knows he'd offer to help financially and she doesn't want to do that to him.
But it's such a sweet thing. She lives in a simple, modest little home that isn't the best, but it's home. Neither have cars, probably can't afford it. But they have each other. And at work, she works her tail off to get a bonus to get Mickey a gift. She's not thinking of herself, only him. Likewise, Mickey wants to get a bonus to buy her a gift.
When Minnie gets a fruitcake, she's heartbroken. And Mickey's brokenhearted when the shop closes. We don't often see Mickey that sad, but it was impactful. And the little moment by the fire is so sweet and warm. They gave up something they liked for the other. It's such a sweet and enduring moment with the mice. My only gripe with it is we don't see Minnie taking her watch to get the case, nor did Minnie have a response when Mickey said she was all the music he'd ever need. Though she did hug him, maybe at a loss for words and gave a more proper response later on that we didn't hear. But still, it's such a sweet little special, and very rare. I really wish we had more things like this with the mice.
Since they didn't show Minnie selling her watch for a harmonica case, do you plan to do a short fanfic on that?
Thank You
